Members of the planning committee have turned down controversial plans for eight new three and four bedroomed houses on land at Tewkesbury Marina.
Committee members, who delayed a decision from their July meeting to see the site for themselves, went against their officer’s recommendation and voted the scheme out.
Councillor Brenda Evans described the application as the worst she had ever seen, and Councillor Chris Smith said the houses would be overbearing and claustrophobic to other residents.
A local resident, who has asked not be named said: " We are delighted, common sense has prevailed."
