NATIONAL CYCLING EVENT FOR TEWKESBURY
Staging the one day event will cost £60,000.
Bikes will take over the streets of Tewkesbury when a national cycling event comes to town on June 1st 2010.
As well as a top race the day will include family events, a chance to meet top cyclists and other athletes and lots of other cycle related fun.
Borough Council spokesman Phil Taylor said, "This is a great chance for us to showcase everything the borough has to offer - there will be huge publicity and it will bring so many visitors to the area it will give a boost to our economy”.
Staging the one day event will cost £60,000.
The borough council is contributing £20,000, with £35,000 coming from the Healthy Towns Initiative, £4,000 from the county and £1000 from the town council.
Last year the Tour took place in ten towns, this year the organisers have extended it to 14.
Organiser Craig Brophy said, "All the events are really well attended so it will really benefit the district's tourism."
