Housing plan turned down Councillor says building on former tip is unsafe
Tewkesbury Borough Council has turned down a planning application to build 14 houses on land between the Ashchurch Road and Walton Cardiff Lane.
The site owner wanted to close off Walton Cardiff Lane at its junction with the Ashchurch Road and send all traffic along Knightsway and Pyke Road.
This plan would have created a fire hazard, but the Council's main objection was that the proposed land, artificially built from waste materials, stands on the flood plain.
Councillor Mrs Barbara Cromwell said: "I would have serious concerns about the safety of anything built on there" and added "the land is under six feet of water whenever the Carrant Brook floods".
