Another Dragon for Tewkesbury
Work due to start on Fire Sculpture
Skip, the Tewkesbury dragon, is to have a companion - but their friendship will be short lived! Norwich based, Sacred Flame Fire Theatre, will arrive at the Pageant Meadow, immediately behind the Abbey, on Tuesday July 4.
The theatre company will spend the next four days creating a giant dragon, which will go up in flames on Friday night in a ceremony to mark the opening of this year’s Medieval Festival.
Sacred Flame, who have been performing at Tewkesbury for 15 years now, have always wanted to create a fire sculpture, and this is the first year that funds have been available.
A procession will leave the Bell Hotel at 9.00 pm and proceed to the Cross, where red and white roses will be laid in honour of those who fell in the Battle of Tewkesbury (1471). The procession will then make its way back to the Vineyards in time for the fire lighting at 9.30 pm. Members of the public are invited to view the lighting ceremony from the Vineyards.
