This grand total meant the council came 2nd in the South West Regional tree re-cycling competition and 6th in the whole country. There were 125 councils in the competition.
Residents were asked to take their unwanted trees to collection points at gardening centres throughout the borough.
They were then taken to a central point and shredded for use as mulch on the council's flower beds and paths.
The competition was organised by the environmental charity, Going for Green, supported by Sainsbury's Homebase.
