St. Georges Day Success
Dragon slays them.

He was spotted first in Church Street, but was later found behind the Abbey, where he set a house on fire and menaced a maiden, until she was valiantly rescued by St George.

But it was good fun. The dragon, affectionately known as Skip had been specially made by Eiffion Thomas for the St George's day celebrations, organised by the Tewkesbury Liaison group.

Once the dragon had been successfully slain the Tewkesbury mummers took over and presented their own inimitable version of the story of St George.

It was the dragon however who was the real favourite. Three year old Rebbeka Sermon was so upset at seeing it die, that her father Richard had to take her over to meet it to see it was really alright.

This is the second year that the town has very successfully celebrated our national day.

The events were shown on both BBC and ITV local news.

Town Mayor, Peter Aldridge said: "I am sure it is an event that will grow and get better and better."

Organiser Bill Treen said: "Everything went really well, and I am sure everyone had a great time."

Skip the Dragon had such a good time he has promised to turn up at other events in the town.
