New school for Tewkesbury!
Local author honoured in name.

It has been named after the well known author of the Brensham Trilogy, John Moore, who lived in the town for most of his life.

He was keen and knowledgeable conservationist long before it was fashionable and his memory is preserved in the John Moore Countryside Museum in Church Street.
His widow, Lucille Bell said "I am delighted that John is being recognised in this way."

The headteacher will be Christopher Chamberlain, currently the deputy head of Cirencester Junior School. He will take up his duties in May, to prepare for the first pupils.

The school will eventually cater for 120 children in seven classes.
However , for at least one year it will be open only to infants. Juniors will have to go to existing schools in the town. There are no plans for a new senior school.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire County Council’s education department said they will review the situation in September 2001, when they have a better ideal how many families are living in the new houses.
