Local firms could benefit from the production of the A400M aircraft, for which Tewkesbury MP Laurence Robertson has pressed the Defence Minister for a likely starting date. Dowty Propellers hopes to win the manufacturing orders for the project. The Defence Minister said he had assurances that the Germans would go ahead with their order for 73 aircraft. Mr. Robertson said, however, that the decision could depend on the outcome of the German elections, which could put the project in jeopardy by reducing the number of aircraft. Mr. Robertson also said that he had asked the Defence Minister to do all he could to ensure that the Germans do not delay for too long and do not cause the project to be cancelled from lack of their support.
