Ambulance for Kosova
Funded by Tewkesbury School

An Ambulance packed with medical equipment will soon be on its way from Tewkesbury to Kosova.
It is has been funded by Tewkesbury School and is being delivered by Roger Laycock of Tewkesbury Indepent Aid.

He will be leaving with a convoy organised by British Humanitarian Aid on March 6 and will deliver it to a hospital in the Kosovan town of Gilane.

His inspiration for the scheme came from a visit to the hospital with a previous aid convoy last September.

It had been run by the Serbs and before leaving they had completely stripped it.

It lacked even the most basic equipment, there was no running water, electricity was intermittent and most of the windows had been broken and boarded up.

On his return to Tewkesbury, Roger started fund raising and expected it to take at least a year.
However Tewkesbury school chose the project as a beneficiary of its charity fortnight and gave him £4000.

They gave a similar amount to the Quedgley Based Rapid Response UK. This gave Roger a chance to meet their representative David Seers.

As a direct result of this meeting Rapid Response UK donated an ambulance, for which they had no further use to the Tewkesbury charity.

The money from the school will fund the 4,500 mile round trip to deliver it, and the rest will pay for another load of donated aid to be delivered later in the year.

Roger said: "I am amazed and delighted by the generosity of the school. It was their hard work that made this project possible."
