SPORTING SUCCESS BOROUGH YOUNGSTERS IN SOUTH WEST GAMES
Tewkesbury Borough sent 200 sports mad youngsters to the Western Counties Youth Games last weekend (June 2-3).
They were amongst 2500 young people from across the region taking part in the games, held at Millfield School in Somerset.
Not only did they have a wonderful time, they brought back several trophies. James Bayliffe was the overall winner of the long jump and the girl's cricket team won the bronze medal, narrowly beating a team from the Forest of Dean. They also proved their real sporting spirit by winning the fair play award for the competition. The mixed tag-rugby team also did very well, being pipped at the post, losing the semi finals by just one point.
Andy Sanders the Borough Council's youth sports development officer, and team manager said: "All the Tewkesbury Borough participants really played their hearts out and showed a fantastic attitude throughout."
