CHANGE OF HEART SAVES CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Council Cash rescues celebrations.

Tewkesbury's annual Christmas Lights Festival was almost abandoned this year, when the Borough Council turned down an application for help with the running costs.
The Chamber of Commerce, who organise the event, appealed against the decision and the Council turned Father Christmas and gave them £1,500.
This, coupled with a grant of £1,250 from the Town Council means that the organising committee can now go ahead with plans for a two-day event on November 25 and 26.
On the 25th Father Christmas will be setting up his grotto in town and will be available to talk to children about what they would like to find in their stockings and under the tree.
On Sunday the 26th the High Street will be taken over by stalls, rides and entertainment to keep everyone happy until Father Christmas arrives on his sleigh to switch on the lights.
Organiser Elaine Hancock said: "Without the grant from the council we would not have been able to go ahead.
"The only other income we have is from the stallholders and the sale of raffle tickets.
"There is no way that would raise the £6000 it takes to put the festival on each year."
