MAKING POPPING OUT FOR PINT EASIER Friends Rally Round to Help Ron
Ron Pope loves popping into the King Charles for a pint and chat. However, at 84,and with a heart problem he found the walk from Lane's Court to the Barton Street pub was more than he could cope with. The £4 it cost for a taxi meant he could not afford to go very often. Then his friends - led by landlady Sarah Jones- came to the rescue. They rallied round and raised the money to buy him an electric wheelchair. "It is a wonderful gift - my thanks to everyone who helped get it for me" a delighted Ron said.
