OLD POST OFFICE TOWN'S WORST EYESORE
Civic Society Awards

The former Post Office in the High Street is Tewkesbury's worst eyesore, according to judges in a competition organised by the Civic Society.
The independent judges said that the building, which has stood empty since the new post office opened two years ago, "is extremely ugly and in a very prominent position in the town"
They also said that Cares Alley off the High Street was in such a bad condition it was a wonderful asset at serious risk of being lost for ever"
On the brighter side they chose Alison's Bookshop as the best restored building in town, and commended Chicago Pizza as an excellent example of how an old building could be made commercially successful and beautiful.
There was no winner in the competition for the best new building, but judges commended the new arts block at Tewkesbury school as an excellent example of an exciting new building.
Organiser Margaret Lucas said the competition had been a great success and had drawn attention to the importance Tewkesbury's many listed buildings.
