LIGHTING THE WAY INTO THE NEW YEAR Would You Like to Light the Beacon?
Tewkesbury's Millennium Beacon is to stay. A planning application has been submitted to make the beacon on the top of the Vineyards a permanent structure. However, at this week’s town council meeting, members decided against lighting it again on New Year's Eve.
The Council agreed that they had done enough to mark the new Millennium and could not be seen to spend any more public money of the project. They will, however look favourably on any application from a responsible organisation that would be interested in doing so. Applications from organisations wishing to light the beacon should be made to the Town Hall.
