Tewkesbury Historical Society We have now entered (hopefully) sunny hiberation - although much goes on behind the scenes! Our next meeting is on 16 September 2010 at 7.45 an the Methodist Church. The Railways are coming back! Congratulations to Sam Eedle who won the Woodard Prize at the AGM for his article "Adieu with bangs and whistles", the last day of Tewkesbury's Passenger railway. Bulletin 19 has now been published! It features articles on The Unfought Battle of Tewkesbury during WWII; Gordon Baker a WWII Evacuee; Tewkesbury Chartists!, Restoration of 46 High Street, Sky Turner and Tewkesbury Scouts; a Village Baker from Overbury; Thomas Holland, the maimed stocking weaver and his evidence to a Commission of Enquiry; Gage's Splendid Abbey Gates and the penultimate instalment Freeman family's History in Photographs appears. Members can obtain copies at meetings and also Alison's Bookshop stocks them. Please look at our website for other important Society news. The weekly computer tuition, assisted by Geoff Everitt, continues on Thursday afternoons from 2.30-4.30 sponsored by Tewkesbury School.
