The Society aims 1 To promote research into the Town's History 2 To hold meetings open to the public |
TEWKESBURY HISTORICAL SOCIETY President: John Dixon (01684-294262 & john.history@freeuk.com) During our 2010-11 Season, the Society will enter its 20th year of life. It was founded as a joint venture by the Museum, Tewkesbury School and the Library, which remains our H.Q. but the venue for meetings is the Methodist Church at the Cross.
Our two overriding aims remain: firstly, to increase the knowledge of the history of our town and, to this end, we publish annually a Bulletin of Research . So far nine volumes have been published and the vendors have a classified index and list of contents. This information can also be accessed on the Local Studies computer at the Library where the Woodard Database of Local History is available for the use of historians and family researchers. There is a weekly session of tuition in using the Society's database and the World Wide Web on a Thursday afternoon, 2.30-4.30 p.m.. (Please ring 293086 to book a session)
Secondly, we hold monthly meetings open to the public where lecturers provide illustrated lectures on a variety of stimulating historical topics. Tha A.G.M. is held on the third Thursday of April.
Thanks to the pioneering work of Wendy Snarey, we have our own website on www.ths.freeuk.com managed by Derek Benson - try it!
Interested members of the public are very welcome to attend our public meetings and further details can be obtained from the Secretary Janet Martin (290452 email secretary@tewkhs.freeuk.com) & Membership Secretary (Derekl Benson, 290452 or derek.benson@btinternet.com). (Updated 28/05/2010)
